"Easy Classical Schedule eliminates the time-consuming task of book/curriculum selection and also decreases the likelihood of unnecessary purchases. I can truly focus on understanding the subjects thoroughly and enjoy learning with my child." ~Sherri W. Grifton, NC

Read the Well-Trained Mind to understand the framework of classical education at home. Shepherding a Child’s Heart and Say Goodbye to Whining, will give you a wonderful guide to raising children with hearts to honor God. The Total Money Makeover will help order your finances, and begin to teach your child about budgeting. We provide a budget sheet in our schedules and suggestions for how to structure allowances and how to simply teach budgeting to your child. These books are not used in our schedules.
Your job as a parent is not just to keep your child happy. You're raising a future grown-up who needs to be able to deal with grown-up matters. Teach your children how to handle money while they are young, and they won't make costly mistakes later in life.
This year the schedules will take your child through a study of the Old Testament. The readings will follow the Old Testament history that you will be studying. Purchase the Bible that you think will be most appropriate to the reading level of your child. You may have to do much of the readings this year. The Bible memory verses scheduled this year are taken from a calendar-like booklet Wise Words for Moms. This booklet lists discipline issues and verses that deal with these issues. It gives another list of verses recommended for replacing the bad behavior with good behavior. We also recommend you purchase the Tracking Your Walk daily prayer journal. This is a great place for your child to write down memory verses as well as prayer requests.
If your child needs extra help with reading or could benefit from a phonics review, we recommend you use Phonics Pathways. This book is included on our first grade schedules. You fill in the page numbers completed so you can start at your child's level and move along at his or her pace.
Spelling Workout C is geared toward the second or third grader. Purchase Spelling Workout D if you were able to complete Spelling Workout C in first grade. Most Children will be at the level of Spelling Workout C this year.
This is a great handwriting program. The instruction manual has a couple of pages of instruction for each level in the program. Only purchase the instruction manual if you haven’t purchased it in a previous grade. For additional handwriting practice and copy work opportunities, purchase the Ancient History Copybook from Lulu.com.
This is a great K-12 writing program. Our schedules help you to use this excellent program by providing you lesson plans and writing assignments that are coordinated with the science and history lessons scheduled during the week.
This is a great way to teach grammar. With jingles, the question-answer flow, and scripted lessons your child will be able to define the parts of speech and find each one in a sentence easily. You will be amazed at how much grammar you and your child will learn by the end of the year.

We recommend you Purchase Saxon Math 3 (Saxon Math 2 is more of a first grade text book). If you are unsure your child is ready have him take a placement test. Purchase the teacher's manual, the student workbooks and Math meeting book as well as the math manipulatives (if you haven't already).

Our first choice for music is the Suzuki method. Our girls have accomplished so much at a very young age. But our boys are more interested in sports and outdoor pursuits so for music we have used First Book of the Recorder. This book has short lessons that teach the basics in holding a recorder and learning to read music. This book is scheduled on our second grade schedules.

If you order from CBD you get the "Kids Kit" version which includes the book and a recorder.

All you need for the second grade schedule is the Teaching Writing: Structure and Style (Teacher's Seminar). If your student needs extra practice, the "Student Seminar" might be helpful.
