| Read The Well-Trained Mind to aid you in understanding the framework of classical education at home. Shepherding a Child’s Heart and Say Goodbye to Whining, Complaining and Bad Attitudes will give you a wonderful guide to raising children with hearts to honor God. Shepherding a Child’s Heart is the theory and Say Goodbye to Whining... is the practical application of the theory. |
| These are the books scheduled for Bible in kindergarten. Your child will learn half of the catechism questions in Big Truths for Little Kids this year and half next year. He or she will also learn Bible verses from A-Z in My ABC Bible Verses. |
| You may begin using these books to teach your child to read this year. Make sure you take your time. Some children are ready to begin reading at age 4 and others are not ready until age 5 or 6. Do not push your child. Wait until he is ready and you will encourage a love for reading. We recommend that you start with Teach Your Child to Read in Preschool and Kindergarten. If your child is not reading fluently by First Grade we switch to Phonics Pathways for variety and to meet the needs of different learners. |

*Has your child memorized books you read to him?
*Can he recite those books as he looks at the pages?
*Does she ask what a particular word is?
*Does she recognize letters and the sounds
associated with them?
If you have answered yes to any of these questions you
may begin to teach your child to read. If you have
answered no, take this time to encourage a love for
reading. Choose books that hold your child's attention.
Attend the Library's story hour.

| Spelling Workout A is geared toward the kindergartener or first grader. You may find at the beginning of the year that you have to sit right beside your child and almost do the lesson for him. Toward the end of the year your child should begin to catch on and be more independent. Purchase Spelling Workout B if you were able to complete Spelling Workout A in preschool. Most Children will be at the level of Spelling Workout A this year. |
| This is a great handwriting program. The instruction manual has a couple of pages of instruction for each level in the program. Only purchase the instruction manual if you haven’t purchased it in a previous grade. |
| We recommend you Purchase Saxon Math 1 (Saxon Math K is more of a preschool text book). If you are unsure your child is ready have him take a placement test. Purchase the teacher's manual, the student workbooks and Math meeting book as well as the K-3 math manipulatives. |
