If your child is not reading fluently, or could benefit from a phonics review, we recommend you use Phonics Pathways. We have found that it is beneficial to switch to Phonics Pathways for variety and to meet the needs of different learners. If your child is reading fluently, you may still consider purchasing Phonics Pathways to strengthen his or her phonics skills. This book is included on our first grade schedules. You fill in the page numbers completed so you can start at your child's level and move along at his or her pace.
Spelling Workout B is geared toward the first or second grader. Purchase Spelling Workout C if you were able to complete Spelling Workout B in Kindergarten. Most Children will be at the level of Spelling Workout B this year.

This is a great way to teach grammar. You might think, “My child isn't reading well, how can he learn grammar?” Shurley English makes it easy. While your child learns grammar they also practice reading and writing.
We recommend you Purchase Saxon Math 2 (Saxon Math 1 is more of a kindergarten text book). If you are unsure your child is ready have him take a placement test. Purchase the teacher's manual, the student workbooks and Math meeting book as well as the K-3 math manipulatives.
| Take trips to the Library. Attend story hour at Barnes and Noble or at your local library for school age children. Read, read and read some more to your children.
